OCNI Youth Shadow Council
Shaping the Future of the Canadian Nuclear Industry
Mandate
The OCNI Youth Shadow Council is a volunteer group aimed at fostering leadership and engaging young Canadians in key issues within the nuclear energy sector. Operating as an active committee, its focus is on developing youth leadership and driving meaningful participation in the industry’s future.
The OCNI Youth Shadow Council (OYSC) is a volunteer group dedicated to engaging young leaders and youth across Canada, encouraging them to actively participate in shaping the future of the Canadian nuclear sector as we work towards the ‘Net Zero by 2050’ goal.
The council focuses on leadership development and outreach by connecting members with industry mentors through a structured mentorship program, offering opportunities for job shadowing and career exploration. Council members are also actively involved in nuclear events, such as the “Glow Up” youth series webinars, and are encouraged to attend various OCNI events, both in-person and virtual.
A key aspect of the council’s work is maintaining a strong social media presence, building on previous successes while introducing new ideas and campaigns to promote engagement and educate peers about nuclear energy in Canada. Additionally, the council will produce an annual youth-perspective report on the Canadian nuclear industry, sharing their insights and reflections from their experiences on the council. Through these initiatives, the OYSC plays a crucial role in fostering youth leadership and contributing to the broader conversation on Canada’s energy future.
The goal of the OCNI Youth Shadow Council is to promote youth leadership development and engagement on key issues in the Canadian nuclear energy sector.
The OYSC is a volunteer youth group that works with OCNI to promote youth engagement in the nuclear sector. OCNI recognized the need and interest for youth input for industry partners and received applications for the OYSC from students and young professionals.
The OYSC engages young leaders and youth across Canada to be involved with the future of the Canadian nuclear sector as we strive to meet the ‘Net Zero by 2050’ target.
The committee’s primary function includes promoting youth leadership development by educating peers using social media channels, webinars, and campaigns to disseminate information about nuclear energy in Canada.
OYSC’s year-end report demonstrates how enthusiastic they are about the environment, clean energy, and emerging technologies, and motivated to contribute to the Canadian nuclear sector.
The OYSC is eager to see more youth in industry roles as the sector continues to grow. We hope that you gain insight into the youth perspective and learn more about what they have accomplished.
