CNSC issues the detailed Record of Decision for the renewal of Ontario Power Generation’s Nuclear Power Reactor Operating Licence for the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station
On December 21, 2018, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) issued the detailed Record of Decision, including the Commission’s reasons for decision for the renewal of Ontario Power Generation Inc.’s (OPG) Nuclear Power Reactor Operating Licence for the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station (PNGS). This decision was issued following a two-part public hearing held on April 4, 2018, in Ottawa, Ontario, and from June 25 to 29, 2018, in Pickering, Ontario. On August 8, 2018, the Commission had announced through a Summary Record of Decision its decision to renew OPG’s licence to operate the PNGS from September 1, 2018 until August 31, 2028. The Commission also authorized OPG to operate PNGS Units 5 to 8 up to a maximum of 295,000 equivalent full power hours.

Bruce Power Offering Over $50K In Post-Secondary Scholarships
Students from Bruce, Grey and Huron counties can now apply for post-secondary scholarships as part of Bruce Power’s annual scholarship program. Bruce Power will award $500 to 100 successful applicants who are pursuing post-secondary education or a trade, for a total of $50,000 in scholarships. All applicants for the eighth annual scholarship program must read the eligibility requirements and then complete the online form at www.brucepower.com/community/scholarships. Applications are due by May 9 and the scholarships will be presented to the recipients at a breakfast event at the Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre on May 25. “Education is the foundation for success, and we want to play a small role in encouraging local youth to pursue higher learning,” said James Scongack, vice president, corporate affairs and environment. “Whether or not these students work for Bruce Power in the future or explore careers in other fields, we wish them nothing but success.” Bruce Power will also award thousands in elementary and secondary school awards across Bruce, Grey and Huron for Grade 8 and 12 graduates later this year.
