June 26, Pickering, Ontario. The Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCI) commends the Government of Canada in concluding this important phase in the restructure and revitalization of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), a subsidiary of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), with the selection of the Canadian Nuclear Energy Alliance (CNEA) partnership as the preferred bidder for the management of CNL under a government-owned, contractor-operated (GoCo) model. The CNEA group includes CH2M HILL Canada Limited, Fluor Government Group – Canada, Inc., EnergySolutions Canada Group LTD., and SNC-Lavalin Inc., with Rolls-Royce Civil Nuclear Canada Ltd in a supporting role.
"CNL is a world-leading developer of nuclear science and technology innovations," said OCI President Dr. Ron Oberth. "The selection of a strong international consortium like CNEA as the preferred bidder to facilitate the transition of CNL to a GoCo model demonstrates the Canadian government’s desire to see CNL work closely with rest of the Canadian nuclear industry in competing successfully on both domestic and international nuclear projects."
A revitalized and more commercially focussed CNL, working collaboratively with Canada’s world leading nuclear utilities and Canada’s strong and diverse nuclear supply chain, will ensure that Canada retains its status as a Tier-1 nuclear country delivering clean, safe, and cost-effective nuclear energy solutions so many parts of the world.
"OCI member companies look forward to working closely with the CNEA partners in converting science and technology innovations at the Chalk River laboratories into successful commercial nuclear products and services that benefit utility customers and create high quality jobs in the communities across Canada in which OCI companies operate" said Oberth.
Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCI) is an association of 180 leading Canadian suppliers to the nuclear industry in Canada and foreign markets. OCI companies employ more than 12,000 highly skilled and specialized engineers, technologists and trades people who design reactors, manufacture major equipment and components, and provide engineering services and support to CANDU nuclear power plants in Canada as well as to CANDU and Light Water Reactor (LWR) plants in offshore markets. OCI promotes the continued and expanded use of nuclear energy in Canada and supports member companies in both domestic and international nuclear markets.
